About Us
How We Met
Mike and Carolyn both attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for their undergrad. She was in the school of Literature, Arts and Science down on central campus, while he was in the College of Engineering up on north campus. They probably never would have met (there are over 30,000 students at that school, and they were taking completely different classes on different campuses!), but they both happened to be at the same house party on February 13, 2004. They starting talking, did a little dancing, exchanged phone numbers, and have been happily together ever since!
Our very first trip together - to watch U of M's football team play in the Rose Bowl, January 2005
Best road trip ever! Drove all the way from California to Michigan, and saw tons of cool stuff along the way! No planning required -- just brought some maps and guide books, drove until we got tired, then called nearby hotels from the car. I highly recommend everyone does this at least once in their lives!
Best vacation ever! Mike and I went to Rome and Florence, Italy in September 2007. I can't wait to go back!!!
How We Got Engaged
Mike and I went on a camping trip in northern Michigan in August, 2009. We started out at the Traverse City State Park campground. The first day of our trip was spent at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. We hiked a few trails, saw some amazing views of lake Michigan, and of course, climbed the giant sand dune. Then we spent the next two days wine tasting in the Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas. Then we headed off to Lake Charlevoix where we camped at Young State Park and spent the whole day on the beach. Next we drove up to St. Ignace in Michigan's Upper Peninsula through Charlevoix, Petosky and Harbor Springs. We took the Tunnel of Trees on M-119, which was amazingly beautiful! We camped at Straits State Park then got up very early the next day to catch the ferry to Mackinaw Island!
We toured Fort Mackinac, the butterfly house, then checked into our cute little Victorian style inn. That night, we got all dressed up and Mike took me out to dinner at the Grand Hotel. After an unforgettable dinner, we went for a romantic walk on the boardwalk, down by the water, in the moonlight. And that's where Mike proposed! I happily said yes!
The next day we road our bikes all around the island, explored some caves, then headed back to our tent in St. Ignace. Unfortunately, the next day the weather was miserable, so we packed up our tent and headed home a day earlier than planned. But we didn't care -- we were engaged!
